Here are the 4 important things to note:

1. Get your website known by Google

Google Search Console (Webmaster Tool)

There is no way you will build a website and expect your website to rank on Google if you haven’t submitted it.

So the next thing you want to do is:

Submit your website on Google Search Console.

After doing that,

You should go ahead to submit your sitemap to allow Google understand how your site content is structured.

2. Keyword research

Why Keyword Research for Nigerian Businesses?

Keyword research is something that has been ignored by so many people.

People just wrote generic content and expect it to rank on Google.

It doesn’t work that way!

You have to write your content around a particular keyword.

You understand?

So:

Let’s say I want to write a content around SEO and I’ve come up with a keyword that is… ‘SEO Tips’.

The next thing is,

I will definitely want to know:

  • How many people are searching for SEO tips in the world or locally (you might want to know how have searched it in Nigeria or wherever it is you are in the world)
  • You look at the search volume it gets monthly to know if it’s a good keyword.

Let’s assume its getting 1000 monthly search volume in the world, you know it’s a good keyword to write your content around.

So:

It’s important that you carry out your keyword research and the tools that have helped me to accomplish this is google keyword planner.

Another tool that has helped me is the MOZ keyword research tool.

3. On-Page SEO Optimization

On-Page SEO

When I talk about on-page SEO optimisation.

I’m simply telling you about your content.

So:

When it comes to your content, there are things you need to look at.

  • Is your keyword appearing in the title of your content?
  • Is it appearing in your URL slug?
  • Is it in your content?
  • How many times have you used it?
  • Your keyword density.

These are things you need to look at.

And…

  • Are you also using LSI?

I am sure you’ll be like… What is LSI?

LSI is Latent Semantic Indexing.

And there are ways to get more LSI. I am going to give you an example.

If I am going to be writing something about SEO tips, I am going to use an LSI of ‘Search engine Optimization‘ since SEO means search engine optimisation.

So, LSI doesn’t literally mean synonymous words, they are words that are related to that keyword you are optimising your content around.

Use LSI, sprinkle these LSi and please…

Don’t do SEO blackhat. Google might demote you for that.

You also need to look at the density of keyword but don’t stuff it because that’s keyword stuffing!

Lastly..

4. Get exposure

After writing your content and publishing.

You cannot just go back, relent and expect your content to get known.

It’s not possible.

For you to get exposure, you need to get your content populated on different social media platforms.

So, you need to get them known on Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and so on.

Secondly, one of the most important strategies to get your content known is to build links.

You need to learn how to build backlinks for your content.

And not just links….

Quality backlinks!

And for you to learn how to build quality backlinks, you have to come up with amazing useful content.

When you write amazing content, people will naturally link back to such content.

And make sure they are lengthy and resourceful.
