The content marketing landscape continues to rapidly evolve, if you are a content person, you should realise that coming up with creative content ideas can be a gigantic mountain to climb.

One of our students (now alumnus) who attended our digital marketing training course asked…

“Tobi, how can I write content… since digital marketing is revolved around content, how do I create really nice content that my potential customers will love?”

I couldn’t help but feel the frustration. I know the feeling. I’ve been there.

Marketing in the past has been extremely easy compared to what we have now. It’s more of a Hit and Run marketing… No mutual relations whatsoever, back then, we were just concerned about making money and that’s all.

It doesn’t work that way anymore.

So, what works?

Creating content that people want to engage in demand some original, creative and inventive thinking.

Content Marketing is about creating compelling, contagious content and sharing it freely on social networks and blogs.

It is about building a relationship with your prospects and customers that builds credibility and trust that turns prospects into buyers and customers into high-value repeat buyers.

The customers are the main set of people whom you are trying to reach but you definitely need to identify them. That means if you’re not sure who you’re creating content for and what they need to get from it, then you are definitely suffering from this content marketing that lacks the right content strategy and creativity.

In a bid to restore this state, you have to first identify who your main customers are and their goals when they read your content.

When developing your content, you must ensure that it tries as much as possible to address certain issues.

I have split the creative content marketing ideas into two major segments to help you navigate the article easily — for social media and for blog/website.

I hope you find them helpful, at least, it should give you an idea how next your next content strategy should be planned to drive maximum engagement and conversion for your business.

With that said, let’s delve right in.

CONTENT IS KING

Creative Content Ideas For Social Media

1. Convert blog posts into videos

Videos are certainly a great way to communicate and pass important messages. And one way you can get ideas for your videos marketing is to look to your website blog articles.

The most recent statistics show that video content isn’t just effective — the demand for it is growing at an impressively rapid pace.

Did you know, for example, that 53% of people want to see more video content from marketers? Or that 51.9% of marketing professionals worldwide name video as the type of content with the best ROI?

So you see.

It’s time to start converting some of your best articles into videos and posting them on social media.

By pulling your key ideas and data from a blog post, you can easily turn blog posts into short videos to share on your social media channels.

Get your audience engaged by asking questions that relate to your business and their interests. People love to show off their brain-power.

2. Post relatable “tag a friend” content

tag a friend post

I see this type of post flying around a lot especially on Facebook and I am sure you must have been tagged in some of them.

If you are searching for a content idea that can create massive engagement, there you have it.

You’ll also notice that most of the comments are people tagging friends they think would like the post — kind of the modern-day equivalent to forwarding a chain email to friends.

Post a funny, relatable picture that’s relevant to your product or brand and encourage fans to tag their friends – this helps to spread brand awareness without feeling overly promotional.

3. Post savage replies

I am not sure if this should be added to creative content ideas for social media. But I think if you can use it to your advantage, then why not?

Savage replies have been working for a few brands, but social media savagery isn’t an entirely new concept in the social media arena, but we’re starting to see a small but significant shift in its usage from niche companies to prolific brands.

The recent media attention surrounding FCMB Twitter account going full savage on certain customers is a great example of this.

When someone requested a loan to buy a sex doll

When someone said FCMB has more Twitter followers than customers

According to the 2016 Sprout Social Index, 32% of people are annoyed when a brand tries to be funny – when they’re clearly not.

Conventional social wisdom says that in order to speak to your audience, you have to think like your audience. Now before you start emulating this approach, it’s best to diligently weigh the potential risks and rewards:

Pros

  • Appeal to your audience
  • Humanize your brand
  • Increase brand visibility

Cons

  • Overhaul existing brand persona
  • Oversaturate an already popular trend
  • Overstep boundaries

Not everyone can be as fearless and savage as some brands, it’s good to actually try it out. It sure has a tremendous way to drive insane engagement and when used to your advantage, you can get customers.

4. Post coupons and discounts

Providing value in the form of discounts or coupons on your page keeps current fans interested, and can convince others to interact with and Like your page.

Though your regular content can be exciting, remember that your end goal is likely to drive sales – introducing Facebook-only coupons can help to increase social engagement and turn passive Facebook fans into customers.

This can as well be done on other social media platforms like Instagram and Twitter but in post format.

Just like what Elixinol Coupon did with the post below:

There’s also the added possibility that fans may share the discount with their friends, spreading awareness and raising sales even further.

5. Post infographics

Infographics are liked and shared on social media 3x more than other any other type of content. Infographics have emerged in the last 12 months as one of the most popular and shareable forms of social content.

What are infographics?

Infographics are visual representations of information, data or knowledge that present complex information quickly and clearly

The internet and social web are a firehose of information and Infographics are one of the appealing and efficient ways of sharing it.

What are the major types of Infographics and applications?

  1. Statistics
  2. Concepts
  3. Business models and processes
  4. Cartoons
  5. Information
  6. Timelines

Though Facebook isn’t usually the best place to post dense or numbers-heavy content, you can circumvent this by creating and posting visually-appealing infographics.

Take interesting statistics and turn them into easily-digestible – and shareable – visual content. This is a great way to inform customers about your product and industry in a way that’s not overbearing.

Use this tactic sparingly, for information you know your customers will be surprised by or particularly interested in.

6. Create moments on Twitter

Twitter “Moments” feature is now available to all users, meaning it’s easy to compile a selection of Tweets, photos and videos to create a seamless experience for viewers.

If there’s a specific campaign you’re running, take Tweets from your various accounts (and followers if they send you content) to create a Moment that summaries the campaign.

Share this Moment with your followers to easily share the entire experience with them.

7. Run a poll

facebook poll

Both Twitter and Facebook allow you to be able to run polls.

It is one of the less-used features on these social media platforms, especially on Twitter.

They’re engaging and easy for followers to interact with, meaning running a poll is a good way to drive engagement and start a discussion with your customers.

Though the options are endless, some creative uses include letting followers make decisions for you or vote for an item to go on sale. Play around with Polls and see if they have a positive effect on your engagement.

8. Do a live interview!

INTERVIEW EXAMPLE

Another interesting video idea you could try is to interview someone. If you like a bit of a challenge, you could try doing it live. But if live streaming scares you, you could opt to do a recorded video interview for a start.

For the Facebook Live video, you can use BeLive, which allows more than one person to be on the live stream.

To edit your videos, you could use a free video-editing tool, such as iMovie or Windows Movie Maker.

This video is best suited for Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn, and Google+.

An idea to try: Record an interview with a colleague, customer, or industry expert and upload it directly to Facebook (instead of uploading to YouTube and posting the link on Facebook).

The goal can be filling in a contact form, signup for a newsletter, or sharing your content.

Creative Content Ideas For Website/Blog

1. Turn your articles into a SlideShare

Use your website’s analytics to find your most popular post. This will probably work best if it’s a list post, but it doesn’t have to be.

Turn that into a PowerPoint presentation and post to Slideshare.

Here’s an example with some additional tips you can use right now.

2. Publish a post about your success and epic failures

Being successful means making mistakes (or in other words: failing). But failing is not all bad.

It’s a learning experience that allows you to be better the next time. So, that’s the reason why you should talk publicly about your success and failures, to let others learn from it.

3. Criticize a website/blog or a person

The web and blogs are great for discussion, opinions and criticizing. Nevertheless, if you are brave enough to say some crispy words about someone, make sure your text has strong arguments and is based on real facts. Random ranting is pointless.

4. Offer a list of benefits

Whether you’re in the legal industry or running a gym or dance studio, you can create a list of the benefits of doing (or not doing) something related to your business.

You can highlight the benefits of using a particular product or a certain tool in the business niche.

Compiling these tools in a listing articles highlighting all its benefits can be sometimes cumbersome and time-consuming. By writing about what you know, rather than who you are and what you do, you’ll spend less time and write better content.

5. Share A List Of Things To Avoid

Similar to the list of benefits create a list of what-not-to-do or what-not-to-buy. Tip: I wouldn’t recommend making this a list of your competitors!
