I started writing in 2019, initially focusing on poetry and storytelling. What drew you to digital marketing?
To be honest, there wasn’t a single ‘aha’ moment that drew me to digital marketing, it sort of fell into place naturally. As I progressed in my writing journey, I recognised the importance of expanding my skill set to better serve my clients. I realised that to provide maximum value and stay relevant, I needed to understand more about digital marketing.
So, it was more of a gradual realization rather than a sudden revelation. I saw the potential for synergy between my writing skills and the vast opportunities in digital marketing. It became clear to me that by getting into digital marketing, I could amplify the impact of my writing and reach a wider audience.
How did you discover Digital Marketing Skill Institute?
In 2020, while exploring options to enhance my skill set with a tech skill, I dabbled in programming but soon I realised it wasn’t the right fit for me. I started seeking alternative digital skills, and that was when I stumbled upon the Digital Marketing Skill Institute (DMSI) website. I was interested in what I found and bookmarked it for future reference, but I didn’t take any courses until later. Nonetheless, that initial discovery marked the beginning of my journey toward mastering digital marketing.

At the time I took the course, I had been writing professionally for about 3 years but I wanted to upskill. So I decided to take the digital marketing course, and the goal was to try something new and learn a skill that could boost my income as a freelancer.

I took the Website Development and SEO Course. This course focused on building and optimizing websites for search engines to improve online visibility and user experience. This course equipped me with the technical knowledge to create functional and user-friendly websites that rank well in search results. Combining these skills with my copywriting expertise allows me to not only write compelling content but also ensure it is strategically placed and optimized for search engines, maximizing its impact and reach.
What were your goals when you started?
I wanted to try my hand at something new and learn a high-income skill to help diversify my freelance career because I had noticed that many of my clients had needs aside from copywriting, and taking a digital marketing course could help me deliver even more value.
From your position before learning digital marketing, how do you feel DMSI Training has helped you?
Before getting into digital marketing with DMSI, I was pretty clueless about things like SEO and web development. But since I took their courses, it has been a game-changer for me, especially for my personal brand. I have learned how to build a website from scratch, which was a big accomplishment for me. Okay, So when I registered for the course, the organization gave us a form to fill out stating we would receive job vacancy notifications from them for job opportunities. Luckily for me, after taking the course, I received an email about a vacancy for a copywriter position within the organization where I took the course. I applied, did the interview, and was selected for the position.

On a scale of 1-10, how well will you say you’ve applied what you’ve learned so far?
On a scale of 1-10, I would rate myself an 8. I chose 8 because I am continuously growing, and there are always opportunities to learn new things in the field and collaborate on various projects to achieve specific objectives set by the organization.
What is a special project you’ve worked on since you joined DMSI?
Every project I’ve worked on as an Email Copywriter at Digital Marketing Skill Institute has been special, as each one has provided an opportunity to learn and apply the skills I gained from the training. However, if I were to highlight one in particular, it would be my first-ever drip campaign. This project was significant because it allowed me to put my knowledge to work in a real-world scenario, developing a series of automated emails designed to engage and nurture leads over time. It was a challenging and rewarding experience showcasing the effectiveness of what I learned at DMSI.
