What is Advertising campaign?

Advertising campaign is a designed and structured strategy with a specific brand message that is spread across different platforms using different tools to achieve desired results. This strategy is designed with the target audience in mind, with the aim of either increasing brand awareness or to increase sales.

According to Hubspot, it can also be said to be a group of similar ads with a unified tone or message. with a campaign, you can be able to push the same idea in different ways, using different tools through multiple platforms.

One good thing about advertising campaigns is that it can be applied to both digital marketing and traditional marketing. In this article, I will be sharing with you the types of advertising campaigns in digital marketing.

You don’t have to necessarily have an online business before you can use digital marketing to grow your business. You can setup an online store for your physical business.

Do you know that 88% of all online shoppers do online research before buying a product? You see why it’s important for your business to have an online store.

This is also a reason for you to structure advertising campaign for your business. Take for instance, Person A wants to buy a pair of shoes and comes online to search for stores where shoes are sold just like in the image below.

The customer checks the stores online and probably did not find their choice. And then you as a business owner who has a shoe store, takes advantage of that and your ads starts showing up everywhere with the same message to Person A.

Person A gets convinced to buy from you, visits your online store, and buys from you. And the cycle continues without you having to leave the comfort of your home.

I know you will wonder, what is the importance of advertising campaigns to my business, right?

Before I delve into that, I want you to see this video where one of our students talked about how her business grew after she registered for our 90% practical digital marketing course and she implemented what she learnt.

Importance of Advertising Campaign

1.Reach your audience

It helps your business to be able to reach it’s target audience with the message of your brand. Imagine creating a beautiful artwork, and cdeciding to just put in a box and hid it in your warehouse.

This action has defeated the purpose of which the artwork was created becasue the people who should see it cannot see it inside a box in your warehouse except if you bring it out to the shelf.

When you bring it to the shelf, the person who should see it will see it and buy from you.

The same thing applies to your business or brand, no matter how good your business is, if you don’t advertise it, the people who should see it won’t see it and offcourse, they won’t buy because they can’t buy what they can’t see.

This type of advertising requires more ads so as to establish your authority especially if you are just starting out.

2. Business visibility

Aside from reaching your target audience, it is also important that you get visibility for your brand/business, and you can achieve this with advertising campaigns.

As a business owner, it is necessary for you to have a goal when you were starting up, it is this goals that would determine the type of advertising campaign that you would use.

Making your business visible is to show users that you exist and you have what they need or what they will eventually need. They don’t necessarily have to buy from you at the moment, but it is an act to register your existence in their minds.

This way you can be sure to get sales and referrals from people who may not originally be your target audience.

3. Increase sales

The big goal of every business is to make profit, and for profit to exist, you need to make sales regardless of either you are a product based business or a service-based business.

Advertising helps you to reach your target audience, it helps to establish visibility and also brings increase sales for whatever kind of products you are offering.

Person C needs a brand new laptop, searches online and your store pops up, he checks all the products you have, picks the one he/she wants and pays for it.

Let’s say 100 or more people do the same thing, you just made extra sales instead of just leaving your products in your warehouse/store.

Basically, advertising campaigns helps your business to grow and gain credibility over time.

At the beginning of this article, I promised to share with you the advertising campaigns and I will be doing that in the other paragraphs of this article.

Types of Advertising Campaigns

1. Email Marketing

This is the use of emails to advertise your products and the services you offer. It can also be used as a means of creating communicational relationships with your audience.

It can also be used to inform your existing customers of sales, discounts, new products and services. For example, a brand can send out an email campaign t0 inform it’s customers of a new products or discounts on the existing products.

2. Paid Advertising Campaign

Here, you pay for this advertising unlike email marketing. You pay the owner of the as space in exchange for use of that space to advertise your business. This payment is usually settled through a bidding process between marketers and the owner of the ad space

Paid advertising is any kind of advertising that you have to pay for, versus owned or earned advertising.

With paid advertising, marketers pay the owner of ad space in exchange for use of that space. The price paid for the ad space is often settled through a bidding process between marketers and the ad space owner.

There are different types of paid advertising, and they include:

  1. Paid search: This involves the use of images and text as ads on platforms like google.
  2. Display ads: This has to do with displaying ads to website visitors. The ads here are served based on the user’s website browsing activity.

It further involves bidding on keywords so that advertisements related to specific keywords are placed at the top of the search engine results page (SERP). With paid search, advertisers only pay when their advertisement is clicked, providing the alter-ego pay-per-click (PPC).

To differentiate between paid and organic search, look for a small label next to the link which signifies that the result is an advertisement just liek in teh image below.

If you want to learn more about using paid advertising, register for our 90% practical digital marketing course, where you will learn and practice your knowledge about paid advertising alongside other aspects of digital marketing that will be beneficial for the growth of your business.

3. Social Media Advertising

This can be done through social media platforms. You can get quick ROI because all the activities is done in real time, and you can track where your sales are coming from when you tag your advertisements with UTM codes.

It also allows you the freedom to release your brand’s personality, as social media is a more relaxed platform than a paid search advertising or a television commercials.

Whenever you want to advertise on social media, it is important to understand that not everyone in your target audience uses every platform, so you might first of all want to identify who your audience is and also the platforms where you can find them.

This advertising can be done organically if you already have a large audience, but if you are looking to reach new audience, paid advertising will work for you.
