What is Link Building?
Link building is a technique deployed to generate a lot of high-quality backlinks free (external links) pointing to pages of your website.
In essence, it is a strategy used in getting high authority hyperlinks (backlinks) back to your website with the ultimate goal of increasing your SEO ranking.
Inbound quality backlinks
These natural, quality backlinks from authoritative and relevant websites serve as an independent “vote of confidence” which helps search engines and users trust you more.
Link building is no longer a benefit, maybe about 10 years ago any old links would give you a push — but now the algorithm is refined to only recognize natural, subject-sensitive relationships.
If your site suddenly gains a pile of random links it will get you penalized, you have been warned.
Now, the next paragraph is a time-bomb (if you have been doing it), and I will show you what you need to diffuse this ranking-wrecker you call link-building strategy (that of course, does more harm than good to your SEO strategy).
Understanding DoFollow & NoFollow Link In Building Quality Backlinks
Do you know that some sources of links are detrimental to your SEO strategy (using the “if it’s too easy, it’s not worth it” rule)
Think about it this way.
Search engines know that link building is one hell of a tough job, so links built through easy sources don’t really add up to boost your page authority.
Those who have attended our digital marketing training course will be familiar with these SEO terminologies — some of the common words are no-index, do-index, no-follow, do-follow, meta robots, and so on.
So many acclaimed SEO experts don’t even know what a do-follow or a no-follow link is. And that’s the baffling truth!

So, what are no follow links?
..and how has it been the worst thing you have been doing to your domain and page authority?
Nofollow Links
Nofollow is an HTML attribute value used to instruct search engine bots that a hyperlink should not influence the link target’s ranking in the search engine’s index.
It is intended to reduce the effectiveness of certain types of search engine spam, thereby increasing the quality of search engine results and preventing spamdexing from occurring in the first place.
This is a concept introduced by Matt Cutts and Jason Shellen in the year 2005.
Nofollow links attributes do not allow search engine bots to follow the link.
That means if the site owner is linking back to you with the no-follow link attribute — it does not pass on link juice. Only Humans will be able to follow the links.
Interesting right?
Some time back Google made it clear that they don’t consider no-follow link attributes because the value of such links is really insignificant.
Even though, it’s a good practice to use the Nofollow link attribute to those links, where you don’t want to pass link-juice.
Here is an example of a Nofollow Link:

Dofollow/Follow Links
On the other hand, Dofollow links are links that allow all search engine bots to follow them and reach your website.
This type of link gives you link juice and a backlink.
If a webmaster is linking back to you with this link both Search engines and humans will be able to follow you.
The best way to give someone a do-follow link is by allowing keywords in the anchor text. This means when you are linking to any website or page, use the targeted keyword as anchor text.

1. Write Impressive Articles
This is the best and easiest way on how to create quality backlinks for your blog, because why?
..impressive, well-detailed articles will always get shared naturally.
This method does not require any additional effort. All you have to do is come up with a great article.
If you write awesome articles, people will naturally link to them.

Tutorials and top-ten list articles are a couple of good examples of the types of posts that have great potential for getting backlinks from other websites as references.

Additionally, try to optimize those types of articles to rank on search, so as to get natural links when people find them.
Important note: Such articles are based on proper research and practical examples.
2. Try Blogging
If you must take advantage of how to create quality backlinks naturally, then get a blog and establish yourself as an authority.
Some of the authorities in the news and political industry are CNN, BBC, etc, and they naturally build quality backlinks using this strategy.

It turns out making videos can be easy whereby — you do the talking while people get to watch it at any point.

You are going to do that work once and it’s going to be useful all the way down the line.
It’s necessarily not just about written content, videos are a good way to also build backlinks to your website.
4. Try The Broken Link Link-building Method
If you happen to find a site with one or more broken links, and if it makes sense for its owner to link to your content instead (in other words, if it’s relevant content), then you should definitely try and reach out to that person in an email.
Very rarely will they just leave the broken link?
More likely, they’ll put the link you’ve provided as a token of gratitude.

This can also be a perfect way to land your website in trouble if you don’t pay attention properly.
When I look into my comment section from the back end, I get this bunch of automated spam messages — These types of comments are mostly done by bots and are not the type of comment I am talking about here.
Because a large amount of unwanted, irrelevant links can hurt your website’s SEO ranking.
When it comes to commenting, there are websites that allow do-follow links in their comment section, although a vast majority of websites’ comments will only award you with no-follow links.
Actively engage in blog commenting, it’s a quick and easy way to get links and traffic to your website.
6. Discuss on Forums
Forums are an underrated link-building strategy as they get your link on a site that’s closely related to yours.
And because forums are teeming with active members, your link can get you some good traffic as well.

“I know that Backlinks are good…But are the backlinks from forums of good quality?”
Well, if you are looking to build free high-quality backlinks using this strategy, then you should consider the type of forum you’re using.
This is because a majority of forums are not well moderated and thus end up getting spammed with backlinks and irrelevant content and are not so useful from an SEO perspective.
So like anything, you need to pick good forums out of all the best options available and try to build links naturally by participating.
7. Offer Relevant Content as Guest Post
Guest posting is a great way to popularise your brand as well as gain quality backlinks for free.
Start a guest posting campaign and start writing for popular blogs or websites in your niche.
This way you will get quality backlinks and also visitors and loyal readers.
This year, don’t just focus your content on a certain keyword, when you write a guest post, make sure you pay attention to few factors: quality content, readability, valuable and most importantly, it has to be engaging.

8. Directory Linking Isn’t Dead

Directory link building is one of the initial link-building techniques that you can execute to add a little boost to your site’s link portfolio, increase your relevancy signals, and get people to find your brand/site on the web.

Some think directory linking is dead but that’s absolutely untrue.

Also getting directory links are very easy. Thus, earning citations from local directories sends more signals to Google that your website is tagged or categorized to a specific niche/industry.
Directory link building should only be part of your initial link-building strategy as you take time to plan to create linkable assets, fixing technical problems, and implementing a link audit on your website.
9. Create An Interesting Infographic
Creating an infographic is the process of aggregating data in the form of an image. We like to use infographics in 2 ways:

- Submitting them to infographic sharing sites such as visual.ly
We like to think of infographics as the link builder’s Trojan Horse.
Authority sites that would normally ignore you embrace you with open arms and are willing to link to your content.
10. Buy From a Company, Write a Testimonial
You can acquire an easy backlink by leaving a customer testimonial on a company’s site.
See, all companies with products or services to sell, love sharing their customer testimonials with potential customers.
This is how they gain the trust of their target audience and encourage them to use their brand: there’s no advertisement more honest than feedback from your clients.
For that reason, some companies like to give extra credibility to testimonials by adding links to their customers’ sites.
11. Trade Your Products For Blogger Reviews
Plenty of bloggers make a living by writing reviews on various products and services.
It’s safe to call it a symbiotic relationship between them and the brands reviewed by them.
If you sell your own product and you aren’t overly stingy, it’s a good idea to trade what you produce for a review with a link.
12. Do Favors and Jobs, Ask for Links in Return
All you need to do is put whatever skills you have to good use when someone needs your assistance.

Create customized logos for bloggers who have fancy/not-so-good homepage logos and offer it as free for them (most of them would link/mention/cite your name as a good help for their blog).
Transcribe an audio/video content of a video blogger (who owns a website/blog of course). Send him/her an email with the transcribed content and you’ll get a link in return.
